News, Summer Beach Burn and the Spring Fling Campout!

Hey Guys –

Just want to give everyone an update on what’s going on around these Monterey Burner stomping grounds!

422 Roundup:

Thank you everyone that helped and made the 422 Roundup at Lupin Lodge a wild success! We raised almost $400 towards upcoming events and fun. We had a wonderful time of connection with loads of great volunteer help (thank you all our greeters!), sewing workshop by Miss Sara Grindy that made everyone feeling pretty fine about themselves, and the costume swap that seemed to never end and produced more fashion than you could shake your fedora at!

Thank you again, everyone and looking forward to doing it again!

Spring Fling Campout and Ranger Roundup:

That’s right, this weekend is our Spring Fling Campout and Ranger Round Up! Pack your gear, clean off the cooler and lets get this camp out on!

We have the group camp site at Fremont Peak State Park ( for both Friday and Saturday night and we would love to share that space and time with YOU!

If you plan on camping this weekend, make sure to reserve your spot with a $15 contribution per person (kids under 18 free with adult) at or paypal to We are about halfway filled up on reservations, and we will most likely sell out, so please reserve your spot as soon as you can!

Dogs: Totally welcome as long as they leave no trace and have a leash available, as there could be multiple canine friends at the campout.

Ranger Training: During the weekend there will also be a Black Rock Ranger Training taking place for those that are looking to do their Ranger training or renewal. For more information on Black Rock Rangers, check out:

Silent Disco: Friends of MPYRE have graciously loaned us some radio transmitters to test out. We will be bringing some sound equipment to help test this out. If you want to be a part of this hopefully fun experience, please bring an FM radio and some headphones/earbuds to listen along and get your groove on!

Day Use cost is 5$ per person.

We also need two volunteers for the weekend to help with checking people in as they arrive, please contact and let us know!

MPYRE Strikes Back: The Summer Beach Burn

Many of you have been emailing me about the possibility of an upcoming beach burn this summer. Here is the situation, in the past the City of Monterey has been beyond generous in holding the dates for the Beach Burns before we could submit payment, due to us having very little resources. Unfortunately, their policies have gotten a little stricter, and we have not been able to secure a date yet, due to fund needs. We raised almost $400 at the last campout, and we can now start putting the gears in motion to get insurance and start putting plans together. I will contact the City of Monterey this week and get the process moving along. We have spoken about doing July 10th, however that is not a fully secured date yet.

This Beach Burn is an incredible event, as it is the only official Burning Man event in the world that has no gates, fences, or required admission fee. We have always asked for a suggested donation of $10 per person, and we have had a varied response rate to that over the years. We are hoping, through campouts during the year, and the donations received for the event, that we will be able to continue to do these events.

Not only does it take finances to make these events happen, we also need a solid crew of volunteers to help make this a reality! Black Rock Rangers, Greeter Lead, Greeters, Burn Barrel Watchers, Green Beans, and Burn Barrel Betties! If you would like to volunteer to help out please bump an email to

If you would like to help contribute to move this process along in getting us closer to a summer beach burn feel free to earmark your 10$ (or 5$ or 1$ or whatever amount you feel moved to contribute) for the Beach Burn through paypal to

That’s all the news folks!

Thanks for being part of this great family, and looking forward to more fun, connection and community!

Jennie Kay
